British firm Melrose to acquire the German metering giant for the rumored $20.50 per share. German smart metering giant Elster Group SE on Friday announced that it has agreed to an acquisition by British buyout firm Melrose PLC, for $20.50 per American Depository Share, or about $2.3 billion. Almost one third of U.S. households now have smart meters
As of May 2012, almost one-in-three U.S. households now have a smart meter, up from about one-in-four households in September 2011, according to a new report from the Institute for Electric Efficiency (IEE). By mid-decade, more than half the households in the country will have a smart meter, the IEE projects. The U.S. Energy Department has launched an interactive web platform, the Utility Data Access Map tool, which enables electric utilities across the country to show consumers the data they can access on their electricity use.
