Connected World magazine has named the 2011 winners of the Value Chain Awards. ASL Holdings, who turned to Telefónica O2 and Telit Wireless Solutions, received the highest award given in the Energy category this year. The award accredits the efforts of ASLH in the energy area and the development of innovative products for the utility sector particularly for smart metering. More than €5 billion invested in smart grids in Europe
More than €5 billion has been invested in some 219 smart grid projects in Europe to date, and conservatively estimated investment could top €56 billion by 2020, according to a new report from the European Commission’s in-house science service, the Joint Research Centre (JRC). Berg Insight says smart meter penetration in Europe will reach 52 percent by 2016
According to a new research report from the analyst firm Berg Insight, the installed base of smart electricity meters in Europe will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 19.4 percent between 2010 and 2016 to reach 130.5 million at the end of the period. Annual investments in smart metering technology are forecasted to exceed € 3 billion by the mid-2010s. G4S Utility Services, one of the UK’s largest national providers of field metering and data management services, has been awarded a significant contract to provide Macquarie’s Corporate and Asset Finance Group, part of Macquarie Group Limited and one of the UK’s leading smart meter financiers, with a fully accredited MAP system with an ongoing data management service.
