Iberdrola contracts for one million smart meters for projects in Spain
Spanish utility Iberdrola has awarded seven companies contracts with a total value of €300 million to supply one million meters with remote management capabilities, to advance its smart grid projects in Spain. Worldwide smart meter shipments in the fourth quarter of 2011 grew 11.8 percent over the previous quarter and were up 23.8 percent when compared to the fourth quarter of 2010, according to IDC Energy Insights' Worldwide Quarterly Smart Meter Tracker.
