M2M device connections will increase twentyfold worldwide in the next ten years
More than 2 billion devices to be connected worldwide by 2021, with the industry set to grow at a CAGR of up to 50% in some sectors. Cellular M2M connections in the retail industry surpassed 10 million in 2011
The number of cellular M2M connections in the retail industry reached 10.3 million worldwide in 2011, according to a new research report from Berg Insight. Vodafone data revs up 22 per cent in a year
Data revenues now account for 14.5 per cent of the company's £43 billion in service revenues. Vodafone made £46.4bn in the year to March 31st, and a fall in profits from £7.9bn to £7bn. The figures bore out the received wisdom that voice is being commoditised and squeezed. Its voice revenue fell from £27.2bn to £25.7bn as users turned increasingly to OTT messaging services and VoIP. Turkcell targets huge growth in M2M services
Turkcell has joined the likes of Deutsche Telekom and Telia Sonera by forming a machine to machine (M2M) "platform", uniting all the M2M solutions provided to its corporate customers under an M2M Umbrella. The operator said it currently has 750,000 Tukcells SIMs on the M2M platform, but added there are "potentially" 150 million devices that could be connected to its platform in Turkey.
