Quectel Launches Latest Multi-mode LTE Modules

As an expert on cellular M2M modules, Quectel expands its product portfolio to include the LTE modules¹.

The particularly low latency of LTE network systems allows M2M applications to provide an unprecedented, ultra-reactive user experience and facilitates entirely new business models where real time responsiveness is required.

Quectel is expanding its LTE connectivity to the rapidly rolled out 4G industrial sector with multi-mode EC20 and EC20 Mini PCIe series modules. Featuring in unified form factor and cost-effective design, the new LTE modules are provided to be fallback compatible with HSPA and GPRS/EDGE network.

EC20 series is the new generation of Quectel’s LTE modules. Adopted the 3GPP Rel. 9 LTE technology, it delivers 100Mbps downlink and 50Mbps uplink data rates and is fallback compatible with Quectel UMTS/HSPA+ UC20 module in the compact and unified form factor, providing a flexible and scalable platform for migrating from UMTS/HSPA+ to LTE. EC20 Mini PCIe adopts the standard PCI Express® MiniCard form factor (miniPCIe) and provides global network coverage on the connectivity of LTE.

EC20 supports Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology, a cutting edge antenna technology transmitting multiple data streams on multiple transmitters to multiple receivers. The antennas at each end of the communications circuit are combined to minimize errors and optimize data speed.

They also combine high-speed wireless connectivity with embedded multi-constellation high-sensitivity positioning GPS+GLONASS receiver. A rich set of Internet protocols, industry-standard interfaces and abundant functionalities (USB drivers for Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1, Linux, Android/eCall) extend the applicability of modules to a wide range of M2M applications such as CPE, router, data card, rugged tablet, automotive, security and industry PDA.

¹ LTE has the potential to become like “super-Wi-Fi” in that it is fast becoming universally available to connect millions of devices to the internet that have never been connected before. LTE is much more efficient than predecessor technologies, enabling operators to reduce the cost of delivering data services below that of 3G and 2G. Since spectrum is an operator’s most precious resource, this efficiency is driving operators to aggressively deploy LTE networks so they can move subscribers off their 2G and 3G networks and on to LTE as quickly as possible. USA, Japan, and Korea, have already achieved nearly 100 percent LTE coverage. This wide LTE coverage moves the industry beyond smart phones and creates a new paradigm for the creation of new machine-to-machine and consumer electronics devices.
