u-blox’ UMTS/HSPA module for M2M applications successfully tested by Japan’s largest mobile operator, NTT DOCOMO
Swiss-based u-blox, a global leader in positioning and wireless semiconductors, has been successfully passed interoperability testing (IOT) for its LISA-U200 UMTS/HSPA module by NTT DOCOMO, inc., Japan’s largest mobile operator. This allows customers to design in the LISA-U200 modem into M2M devices for the Japanese market. Main applications include vehicle tracking, industrial automation, metering, and security devices.
Tesshu Naka, u‑blox Country Manager, Japan, said:
“We are proud that NTT DOCOMO has confirmed our LISA-U200 wireless module has passed their IOT test for use over their extensive 3G network. Our excellent product features, small size and high quality, together with our local technical support in Japan played a crucial role in achieving this milestone.”
The LISA-U200 is the world’s smallest wireless UMTS/HSPA LCC module delivering high data-rates (5.76 Mb/s uplink and 7.2 Mb/s downlink) with voice and data capabilities. It is compatible with global 3G networks intended for consumer, automotive and industrial applications. For telematics applications such as fleet and asset management, the module provides easy integration with u-blox GPS, GLONASS and QZSS receivers.
LISA modules come in SMT form-factor and have a very small footprint (only 22.4 x 33.2 x 2.6 mm), allowing easy mounting on any application board. The LISA form factor enables easy manufacturing, as well as simple migration from u‑blox’ GSM/GPRS modules. Support for A-GPS and u-blox’ unique CellLocateTM positioning technology is embedded to facilitate advanced telematics applications including indoor positioning.
Features include compatibility with quad-band GPRS/EDGE, low power (idle mode less than 1.5 mA) and operating temperature -40 to +85 deg. C. RIL software for Android and Embedded Windows is available free of charge.
LISA-U200 modules are manufactured in ISO/TS 16949 certified sites and are fully qualified according to ISO 16750 – Environmental conditions and electrical testing for electrical and electronic equipment for road vehicles to provide high durability and reliability.
